Symbolic link

For the film poster and magazine to link with the trailer, each product needs a 'symbolic link'. Therefore for my trailer and ancillary tasks, I will need to consider using the same tag line such as 'based on a true story' which our narrative is, to add to the suspense and realism of the trailer. I could even consider using the same dominant image such as the main character to link the products and make them look like they are a package. The tag line could be used at the beginning of the trailer to hook the audience from the start and then it could be placed at the top of the film poster as this will be one of the first things the audience will see. However, I will not be including the tag line on the front of the magazine as a tag line isn't a convention of magazine covers.

Furthermore, Kayleigh and I thought about using a quote as a symbolic link throughout the trailer. Therefore, we asked Jamie what he thought and he liked the idea so we have decided to use it in our trailer. I have considered also including it on the poster and magazine cover as the symbolic link. This adds to the realism of the film as quotes are often true and people can be inspired by them so may think they can relate to the events in the film

This is the quote my group and I want to consider using. As I found out that text is a convention in a trailer, we could split it up during editing and place it between shots in the trailer to build suspense but also give the audience hints about what may happen to add to the enigma.
On the poster I could use it as a tag line and as a strap line on the magazine to attract the audience as they will want to know what character the quote relates to so they will watch the film to find out.

Symbolic link in Insidious:

Magazine cover
Film poster
Trailer

When I compared these 3 products, I could see that they are all linked because of the dark shadows which feature around the dominant image in the magazine cover and poster and the low key light which features throughout the trailer, therefore this is something I need to consider as this also shows the films genre. Also, the title of the film is the same in each product as they all use the same font. The title in trailer is all in white but for the poster and magazine cover, it is in white with the letters 'S' and 'I' in red to symbolise death. This creates a symbolic link between the 3 products to make it clear they are all for the same film.
