BBFC

As our audience are men and women ages 15-25, our film trailer will have a BBFC of 15. I have looked at what is associated with this age certificate to ensure all the content we include is suitable for our target audience.

Children under 15 aren't allowed to watch a 15 film at the cinema or buy/ rent one at a shop.

What can be seen in a 15:

  • Strong violence
  • Sexual nudity
  • Drug taking
  • Discriminatory language and actions
  • Frequent strong language- no limit to how much
  • Strong verbal references to sex
  • Brief scenes of sexual violence
What can't be seen in a 15:
  • Drugs can be shown and used but must not promote them or encourage misuse of them
  • The misuse of easily accessible dangerous substances such as aerosols and solvents
  • Strong sadistic violence
Trailers, posters and magazine covers:
Audiences can choose to watch/ read a text if they want to based on their expectations of the genre and the given classification of the published BBFC. However, audiences sometimes have no expectation, about the accompanying trailer and advertisements which may be very different in content than the film the audience has chosen to view. Also, because trailers are short and self-contained, the material is less likely to be justified by context and more likely to cause offence.

This is something we need to consider as a group for our trailer as if we are portraying violence and drugs, we need to show it in a manner which won't promote or encourage misuse of the drugs, and also strong sadistic violence which may shock the audience.
