Preperation for audience research

25/09/15

Today me and my group considered the different types of audience research we could consider carrying out to ensure we produce a trailer which will appeal to our audience of males and females aged 15-25. We have considered designing a questionnaire and conducting a focus group:

Questionnaire
As a group, we consider designing a questionnaire to find out what our target audience like to see in a horror film and what their favourite horror film out of killer, psychological and paranormal is.
We must ensure:
  • We don't ask too many questions
  • We mix up multiple choice, closed answers and opportunities to comment questions so the audience don't get bored and so we have a bigger variety of answers to work with.
  • We will consider using images on the questionnaire so it looks appealing to our target audience to make them actually want to answer it.
A focus group
Last year me and my group conducted a focus group for our opening scene idea and it was a success as it really helped us develop our ideas based on the opinions of our target audience.
Therefore, we have decided to conduct a focus group with our target audience once we have collected our research and come up with an initial idea for our trailer. This will enable us to listen to our target audiences opinions of our trailer and also their ideas on how we could improve it so we can adjust our idea to the wants and needs of our audience.

We are going to carry out our focus group with confident easy going people that we don't that well as this will avoid potential problems such as having a dominator or a shy participant in the focus group. This wouldn't be much help because the dominator won't let anyone else speak and the shy participant will only speak a little.
