Horror genre research

I have researched into the codes and conventions of the horror genre to help me when I come to analysing my chosen horror sub genre. From this research, I have learnt that there are many codes and conventions a typical horror trailer uses, for example low key lighting and synchronous sound for effect, therefore we need to consider these conventions when planning our trailer. Also, horror films such as The Woman in Black use semantic fields of death, threat and violence which make the audience feel tense so this is also something we need to consider. This research has also helped me become clear on which stages of Todorov’s Narrative Theory are shown in a trailer. After looking at the conventions, I can now ensure my group comes up with an appropriate but interesting narrative and trailer that is original and imaginative.
